The Palestinian (Riyad Ashkantana) told Al Jazeera Mubasher the last moments of his life, his wife and four of his children, who were martyred under the rubble as a result of the Israeli occupation attacks during the recent aggression on the Gaza Strip.
Ashkinna said that from under the rubble he heard the screams of his son Zain and his daughter Dana, stressing that he would never forget their call, “Baba! Baba”.
He continued, “After they pulled me out of the rubble and gave me first aid, they told me the news of the martyrdom of my wife and four sons, and I saw their coffins in front of me in a scene I will never forget.”
Regarding his daughter, Suzy, Riad said that she stayed under the rubble for 10 hours, and saw her brothers dying, with blood flowing from their bodies.
When the last truce was announced, at two in the morning of May 21, between the Israeli occupation forces and the Palestinian resistance, Riyad Ashkanna was not part of this truce, as he put it, but was “part of the war,” as it psychologically destroyed him and killed his family.
The Israeli missile attacks on the Gaza Strip, by land, air and sea, resulted in the death of 248 Palestinians, including 66 children, 40 women, and 17 elderly people, while wounding more than 1948 of them with various injuries, 90 of which were classified as “extremely dangerous.”
The Israeli aggression, which began on May 11, has caused heavy losses in lives and property, residential and commercial facilities, government institutions, and agricultural lands in Gaza.
The bombing destroyed 1,335 residential facilities, completely or partially, and no longer fit for habitation, while 12,886 homes were moderately damaged, according to the Government Information Office in the Gaza Strip.
