4 members of a Muslim family were killed and a child was injured Sunday evening in a deliberate run-over by a man driving a pickup truck in a city in the southern Canadian province of Ontario, in an anti-Islam hate crime.
The suspect, a 20-year-old man, was arrested shortly after the attack in London, about 200 km southwest of Toronto.
“There is evidence that it was a deliberate and planned act of hate. We believe the victims were targeted because they are Muslims,” city police investigator Paul Waite said.
The attacker was charged with 4 premeditated crimes and attempted murder. He added that police were coordinating with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on possible terrorism charges.
