Despite the beginning of easing restrictions in many countries of the world, the Corona epidemic continues to spread pain, death and fear, and from India came the most terrifying pictures. What do the doctors say about the health situation there and about the black fungus that caused panic?
The “For the Rest of the Story” program (7/2021) monitored the outbreak of the virus in a fierce wave in the second largest country in the world with a population density, as it has spread since last March, a new mutagen called Delta, after easing previous restrictions and allowing crowded political and religious gatherings that led to the outbreak of the virus. disaster.
The film – which was shown in the episode – also showed the acute shortage of oxygen and medicine tubes in a country known for its leadership in the pharmaceutical industries, up to the very cruel scenes of the cremation ceremonies of countless dead bodies according to Hindu traditions.
Although India has known a relative decline in the number of deaths and injuries, it remains high, and its authorities are racing the death machine, contracting to produce different types of vaccines, including an Indian vaccine whose approval procedures have not yet been completed.
For his part, the National President of the Advanced Forum for Medicine and Science in India, Harjit Singh Bhatti, said that India has passed the danger stage, but the numbers are still high, explaining that the country faced the most difficult stages after the number of HIV infections exceeded 40%, pointing out that the infection has now moved to rural areas. in which the health system is not strong enough.
He stated that the health system is weak compared to the country’s population, and therefore is unable to bear the number of injuries and provide adequate care including beds, oxygen and medical equipment for all the affected population.
He also explained that the delta mutated wave causes more infections, because the rate of transmission of infection is very high.
Regarding the black fungus, he said that it has a strong relationship with the increased use of steroids to treat the Corona virus, which caused immunodeficiency and infection with the black fungus, explaining that the delta mutant severely damaged the pancreas, which affects the levels of blood sugar regulation as well.
efficacy of vaccines
In turn, the Director of Programs Department in the Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean at the World Health Organization, Rana Al-Hijjah, said that the spread of infection in India is due to several reasons, including failure to adhere to the necessary preventive measures, as gatherings and religious parties spread.
With regard to mutated strains, she explained that the greater the speed of transmission of the virus between people, the greater the rate of emergence of a new mutated strain, noting that vaccines are the effective way to treat the virus, especially as it has proven effective in confronting the virus in its various forms.
She also explained that black fungus usually affects those who suffer from severely weak immunity, noting that infection in the Arab region is very rare, and that it is not transmitted from one person to another.
She also warned against the excessive use of cortisone medications, because their irrational use during unspecified periods may cause other complications.
She added that the licensed vaccines have been subjected to very strict procedures in terms of their effectiveness and safety, stressing that the vaccines have proven their efficacy in confronting the virus, relieving symptoms in the event of infection with the Corona virus, and then reducing the need for hospitals, especially intensive care rooms.
The World Health Organization official called on governments to work to provide vaccines against Corona, and called on everyone to get the vaccine, with the need to adhere to precautionary measures to confront the outbreak of the virus.
