Eriksen is not the only one.. Players died and others miraculously survived after falling unconscious

The Danish midfielder, Christian Eriksen, collapsed during the match against Finland in the second group of the European Football Championship on Saturday.

UEFA said that Eriksen, 29, who underwent cardiopulmonary resuscitation, was taken to hospital, where the player’s condition stabilized, and then officials announced that he had regained consciousness.

Below is a list of players who fell unconscious in stadiums during matches.

Fabrice Mwamba

The Bolton Wanderers player fell unconscious in an FA Cup match in 2012 due to cardiac arrest, and was considered “dead” for 78 minutes, before the heart returned to work. Shortly after that, the former England Under-21 national team player was forced to retire at the age of 24.

The French player fell unconscious several times on the field; Due to a medical condition, he passed out. He fell unconscious during his participation with Swansea City, Galatasaray and Al Hilal.

Marc Vivien Foy

The Cameroon midfielder fainted during a Confederations Cup match in 2003. Paramedics tried to revive the 28-year-old player on the field before taking him out on a stretcher; But in the end the attempts failed, and his death was announced.

Antonio Puerta

The Sevilla midfielder fell unconscious in his first game of the 2007-2008 season against Getafe, and despite walking off the pitch with the help of medical staff, he passed out again in the dressing room.

Puerta, the Spain player, was taken to hospital, and he died three days later due to “multiple organ failure” as a result of a heart attack at the age of 22.

Sheikh Tioti

Four months after his departure from Newcastle United, the midfielder fainted in training with China’s Beijing Enterprises. The player from the Ivory Coast died in hospital at the age of 30.

Miklosh Fehr

The Hungary striker was playing for Benfica against Vitoria Guimaraes in January 2004 when he knelt in agony before falling to the ground due to a heart attack.

Paramedics tried to revive the unconscious 24-year-old player before he was transferred on a stretcher and then to hospital. Doctors tried to revive him for about 90 minutes before declaring him dead.
