For the first time, two Iranian warships enter the Atlantic Ocean

The General Coordinator of the Iranian Army, Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, said that two Iranian warships entered the Atlantic Ocean, in a precedent to demonstrate the power of the Iranian army’s navy.

General Coordinator indicated that the mission of these two ships began on May 10 from the port of Bandar Abbas (southern Iran), and after they traveled 12,000 kilometers within 30 days, they reached the Atlantic Ocean, and they will head to the north in the ocean to complete their tasks, without providing details of those tasks or next destination.

He pointed out that the Iranian Navy is working to improve its capabilities and prove its ability to withstand the seas and unfavorable weather conditions in the Atlantic Ocean.

American concern

The United States of America announced last week that it is closely monitoring two Iranian ships heading to the Atlantic Ocean, and warned Tehran against delivering weapons to Venezuela.

A spokesman for the US National Security Council warned Iran against delivering weapons to Venezuela, and said – in statements reported by Politico – that this would be a provocative act and a threat to the United States’ partners in South America, after monitoring two Iranian warships on their way to the ocean. The Atlantic, and officials in Washington believe that their destination is Venezuela.

According to the Naval Institute website, these boats equipped with torpedoes and missiles are the same ones that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards used to harass American ships in the Gulf in the past period. The same website also indicated that Venezuela may be trying to acquire these gunboats in order to impede navigation in the vital Panama Canal.
