For his part, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that Washington will continue to adhere to Israel’s military superiority, and ensure its ability to defend itself against what he said are “threats from Iran and its proxies” and terrorist groups.
Austin made it clear during his meeting with the Israeli Defense Minister that President Joe Biden expressed his support for strengthening the Iron Dome system, and Austin also emphasized Israel’s support in defending itself against the rockets fired by Hamas and other factions.
As for the Israeli Defense Minister, he said that the Iron Dome system had intercepted more than 1,400 missiles, adding that it was time for diplomatic action to avoid or delay a military operation in the region.
Gantz also praised the American support, and said that he is looking forward to discussing the issues of Iran, Gaza and others, adding that Israel wants stability and wants to ensure its security in the region.
‘Steady American support’
In the same context, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan renewed President Joe Biden’s firm support for what he called Israel’s right to defend itself.
During his meeting with Gantz, Sullivan affirmed President Biden’s commitment to strengthening all aspects of the security partnership between the United States and Israel, including support for the Iron Dome system.
The White House said – in a statement – that the two officials agreed that the two countries would engage closely to advance their strategic priorities in the region.
Sullivan also highlighted the importance of ensuring immediate humanitarian access to the people of the Gaza Strip.
The White House statement stated that Sullivan and Gantz expressed their determination to confront the threats posed by Iran in the Middle East, according to the text of the statement.
Gantz had arrived earlier in Washington, and held his first meeting with US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.
According to a statement issued by the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Gantz will hold a strategic dialogue during his meetings regarding the nuclear agreement to be signed with Iran, and the preservation of Israel’s military and security superiority in the region.
The statement also said that Gantz will discuss with US officials a long-term calm plan in Gaza, which has been developed by the Israeli security services, and includes the return of the missing soldiers in the Gaza Strip, and the strengthening of what the statement described as the alliance of moderates and the Palestinian Authority.
