Israeli writer and political analyst Matti Khotfeld said that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is facing a major political predicament, as he does not want to appear defeated in front of the Palestinian factions, and does not want to lose his position.
In statements to “Beyond the News” program on 10/6/2021, Khotfeld explained that the great dilemma that Netanyahu is facing is that he does not want to appear as if the Palestinian factions – especially the Islamic Resistance (Hamas), which he classifies as a terrorist organization – have imposed what is on the State of Israel. It should or should not do it in the city of Jerusalem, in reference to the Israeli authorities’ refusal to organize the flag march that extremist Zionist organizations were planning to carry out on the Temple Mount.
This call came a few weeks after the “Sword of Jerusalem” battle waged by the Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip, in which Israel rained 4,000 missiles in response to the provocations of settlers and the Israeli government against Palestinian citizens in Jerusalem.
Khotfeld expressed his conviction that Netanyahu – who has only two days left for his government – will refuse to surrender to the Palestinian factions, and will not accept with all his might that the Palestinians impose their will on the “State of Israel” in Jerusalem, so he may seek to create more battles with them, which may It helps him to gain popularity with the Israeli public opinion, and he succeeds in blocking the “Government of Change” from obtaining the confidence of the Knesset next Sunday, thus ensuring his survival in power, and keeping himself away from the specter of imprisonment because of the corruption charges he faces.
For his part, Director of the Center for Political and Strategic Studies (Masarat) Hani Al-Masry confirmed that Netanyahu’s danger will remain until his imprisonment, and expressed his conviction that he will do everything in his power to stay in power, even if that is through more attacks, harassment and violations against the Palestinian people.
Al-Masry pointed out that Netanyahu has completely disregarded all the agreements and treaties that were previously concluded with the Palestinian Authority, and allowed his forces to enter the areas under the control of the Palestinian Authority and classified as “A”, which the Israeli forces are not allowed to enter, as he violated all rights in Jerusalem and other parts.
