Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in a press conference after his meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo that his country supports Egypt’s position regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, calling for a peaceful solution to this issue.
For his part, the Egyptian president stressed the need to reach a binding legal agreement regarding the dam.
In a related context, the Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Mohamed Abdel-Aty, said that Ethiopia is using the Renaissance Dam for political, not technical, developmental purposes, as it is used in internal Ethiopian conflicts by conflicting forces that have increased even in the interest of their country, as he put it.

He added that Ethiopia is constantly working to create a divide between the downstream countries on the one hand and the African countries on the other, according to his description. He said that the African Union did not provide solutions to the Renaissance Dam crisis.
The Greek Prime Minister, heading a delegation, arrived in Cairo this morning on a visit to the country to discuss support for cooperation and the latest regional and international developments of common interest.
On March 17, the Egyptian president received a phone call from Mitsotakis, in which they discussed following up on a number of bilateral cooperation issues, especially the economic, security and energy fields, in addition to exchanging views on regional issues in the eastern Mediterranean, especially the developments in the Libyan file.
