Khaldoon Al Mubarak, president of Manchester City, the English Premier League champions, said that the club will spend money in the transfer window to find a replacement for striker Sergio Aguero and improve the quality of the squad.
Argentine international striker Aguero, City’s all-time top scorer with 260 goals, will join Barcelona on a two-year contract in July after his contract with the Citizens expires.
“We lost an important legend, Sergio Aguero. It is very difficult to fill this gap, but I am sure we will find the right player to replace him,” Al Mubarak told the Man City website on Tuesday.
“One of the things that I’ve learned over the years is that you need to constantly bring talent into the team and keep updating, especially when you are at a high level and when you are at the top.”
Man City won its third league title in 4 years this season, 12 points ahead of rivals Manchester United, but lost to Chelsea in the Champions League final.
Al Mubarak said City, who also won the League Cup, would not stand still despite their domestic success.
“After winning the league, we will not stop and be satisfied. This will be the biggest mistake. This is the time to send a strong message that you are not satisfied just to win the league.”
