The American people cannot ignore and forget the toxic final months of former President Donald Trump, describing them as the most dangerous moments in modern presidential history, the Washington Post said.
She explained in an editorial that many Republicans want the people to ignore the last months of the man, to whom the Republican Party is still swearing allegiance, but yesterday Tuesday brought another reminder that the consequences of Trump’s actions could have been very dire had it not been for the principled resistance of some officials the main ones. One of Trump’s lies
She said that on December 14, 10 days before Jeffrey Rosen became acting attorney general, an aide to Trump emailed Rosen, asserting that Michigan’s voting system machines had been intentionally repaired, and cited a bogus analysis showing what “could be These machines can do it with the votes of the electorate, and we believe that has happened everywhere.”
Later that month, the newspaper says, the Trump aide sent Rosen a summary the president apparently wanted the Justice Department to submit to the Supreme Court, and the draft reflected the empty arguments Texas had brought before the court before the judges dismissed the state’s lawsuit. Then White House pressure mounted, with Mark Meadows, the then White House chief of staff, sending an email asking Rosen to examine allegations of voter fraud in Georgia.
silly messages
A day later, the Washington Post adds, Meadows apparently sent a video to Rosen alleging Italians were using satellites to tamper with voting equipment, saying these were just some “ridiculous” White House emails alleging fraud in the safest presidential election. Absolutely.
The newspaper praised Rosen, who refused White House requests to use the Justice Department’s massive powers to benefit Trump’s lie, saying he had added his name to the list of honorable state and federal officials who demonstrated devotion to truth and duty at that crucial moment.
They may not hold
The newspaper went on to say that Republicans committed to the “big lie” have sought to replace others, including those with vote-counting responsibilities, adding that if Trump or any other candidate presses again with false allegations of fraud, many Republican officials may find it more difficult to Resist pressure to support the lie or, in fact, participate in presenting it.
Given Trump’s reckless actions after his loss in the 2020 vote, and the violence it caused, the newly released emails are not surprising, and it is not surprising that Trump is relying on the Department of Justice to help him try to steal the election, but America cannot forget that he betrayed his oath, that most Republican officials remain loyal to him nonetheless, and that the situation may be worse next time.
