The head of the Transitional Sovereign Council in Sudan, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, issued a constitutional decree granting the Blue Nile and South Kordofan regions autonomy in accordance with the Juba Peace Agreement signed in October last year.
The decree was announced through a circular issued by the Federal Minister of Government Buthaina Ibrahim Dinar. The Juba Peace Agreement provides for the granting of the two regions autonomy without compromising the unity of Sudan’s people and land.
At the beginning of last May, Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok issued a decision appointing the leader of the “Sudan Liberation Movement” Minni Arko Minawi as governor of the Darfur region in the west of the country.

On 3 October, the Juba Agreement was signed between the Sudanese government and representatives of armed movements affiliated with the “Revolutionary Front” alliance, while the “SPLM” and “Sudan Liberation” led by Abdel Wahed Nur, which is fighting in Darfur, did not participate.
The Juba Agreement approved the return of the federal system of government in the country based on 8 regions instead of 18 states.
